Beware of DIY Insurance

If you are one who likes to take matters in your own hands, you may want to try going online to make changes to your policy.  They make it look so easy, so what can go wrong?  Well, plenty!  Here’s a common error:

You traded in your old beater and got a brand new car!  Congratulations.  You go online click – click – click….delete your car, add your new car. You submit successfully, print your new ID card, close your account…viola!  A few months later, you get into an accident.  You call your insurance company to file a claim, and find you didn’t add collision coverage!  Your old car didn’t have it, and the same coverages transferred to the new car. You didn’t know you needed to add collision. Now you have to pay for the repairs yourself.  You are out $2,500.

Insurance is one of those things where if it’s not done right, you could end up paying thousands of dollars.  We recommend that you leave making changes to your policies to the professionals.  They know what questions to ask and what coverages to include and will advise you.  And always review your policy change to make sure it’s done right.
